Justice and Accountability Network Australia (JANA)

Established in September 2023, the Justice and Accountability Network Australia (JANA) is a not-for-profit group that aims to assist in the bolstering of accountability efforts for atrocity crimes in Australian national courts exercising universal jurisdiction. It also aims to increase Australia’s efforts to support its MLAT obligations abroad.

Universal jurisdiction in Australia: annual report 2024

Due to be released in 2024, the Report, titled Universal Jurisdiction in Australia, will provide an overview of the efforts Australian government officials have made to bolster accountability for core international crimes in Australian and other national courts, as well as increase its capability to meet its MLAT obligations. It will also provide a summary of activities by Australian-based individuals and non-government organisation (NGOs) to build cases and contribute to accountability for atrocity crimes through Australian courts.
